Description

EMOTICA is a set of application research projects developed from an instantaneous emotion detection platform from the analysis of a set of multimodal physiological signals. This platform, bearing the same name EMOTICA, is resulting from the research work of the SPARKS team of the laboratory of I3S, UMR 7271 and McSOC team of the laboratory LEAT, UMR 7238 CNRS-UNS, University of Côte d'Azur.

Projects

Two first applicative research projects were launched in March 2017.

  • The first, called "EMOTICA Mobile (EM)", is to carry the detection system, currently installed under Matlab, on a mobile device such as a tablet, a smartphone.
  • The second project, called "EMOTICA Quantification Station (EQS)", consists in creating a platform for annotating and classifying emotional states by characteristics of the multimodal physiological signals.

Description

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to everything that is connected to the internet and that goes beyond classical computers or mobile phones. According to a recent report by Cisco, it can be expected that over 50 billion objects will be connected to the internet by 2020. This growth is creating unprecedented opportunities for industries, businesses and people.

Most of IoT systems are characterized by the transmission of small amounts of data at low transmission rate, which drastically reduces the bandwidth requirements and leads to the development of ultra-sensitive modulation schemes based on Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) (e.g., SigFox ) or frequency spreading (e.g., LoRa) techniques. Usually, less than 1 MHz bandwidth is enough for most of the applications. Sub-GHz bands, such as the 868 MHz band in Europe and the 915 MHz band in the USA, are often preferred because of their more reliable propagation characteristics.

LoRa technology has been chosen because it is the unique solution that combines extreme sensitivity (-137dBm), ultra-low power consumption, bidirectional capability and high security level (network and application 128-bit AES encryption keys). Moreover, the next LoRa update will include localization using triangulation technique.

A dedicated board has been designed in UCA to ease the development of Internet of things project.

The Mang project will be aimed at further exploiting this research work, by extending the operation of the already existing IoT platform on various application, making the device suitable for smart-city, smart-farming or e-health applications. To this end, three main activities will be carried on: the modification of the antenna, the variation of the shape of the device to better fit with application and the use of various energy harvesting systems (thermo-electric generator, mechanical or solar cell) to extend the device autonomy.

Description

POSCA, is a team-projects of the applied research and technology transfer that aims to produce portable and practical devices, to control pollution in our daily life: food, air, water, soil, ... that fully meet the expectations and needs of the public nowadays.

The main idea is to build the systems that are a coupling between hyper-spectral sensors and a Machine Learning allowing the recognition of pollution as well as the degree of pollution.

The projects developed by POSCA are supported by the research teams of two research laboratories LEAT, UMR 7248 and I3S, UMR 7271 of the CNRS-UCA.

Projects

Two projects are in development over the period 2019-2022:

  • FADOTO: quickly check the existence of certain preservatives and poisons prohibited in certain marine fishes. The project is supported by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology.
  • ToxinChecker: quickly controls the presence of toxins in vegetables and fruits. The project is supported by the International Organization of Francophone Universities (AUF).

Description

The objective of SLEGO is to allow the representation and sharing of "experiences", by formalizing the specific phases of an activity or a process that one wishes to transmit to others for, either to reproduce and to applies it in a real environment, that is it exercises on the implementation of this experiment in a simulated environment, having a return of the results of the experiment which assure him that it realizes it correctly. These experiments or activities manipulate data generated by a set of sensor / actuator type equipment that can take on more or less confidential aspects and require an adequate level of security. In some cases this data is confidential and inaccessible and in fact must be excluded from the transmission mechanism of the experiment. Among the uses and situations of sharing experiences, we can mention E-health.

So the goal of the project is:

The definition of a "domain-specific" language for e-health applications, which makes it possible to describe therapeutic protocols to help maintain independence. These protocols are described through basic bricks that characterize

  • basic activities of description of physical activity or lifestyle (walking sessions, swimming, gymnastics, ...) –
  • medical procedures for the recording of physiological data (taking of blood pressure, temperature, administration of a drug (injection, oral, infusion ...).
  • an environmental context (house, office, aquatic environment, gym, outdoor, ...) thus allowing the appropriate use of certain sensors / equipment
  • A patient context (health indicators, medical history, lifestyle habits, etc.) that must be kept private.

The use of underlying theoretical supports used or developed by the I3S Kairos and Sparks teams in the field of model engineering (GEMOC environment, MARTE), will allow the definition and validation of activities via a formal syntax of scenarios. These activities will be seen as smarts contracts that ensure the security and confidentiality of the data. Enrichment of these contracted Smarts by specific semantic features will be achieved via a CCSL constraint language and / or ontology-based reasoning). A scenario execution engine will guide, in a transparent manner, the user (health professionals or patient) to simulate, exercise these contracts and monitor its effects in relation to set objectives.

Several deployment technologies for these smart contracts will be evaluated, including Blockchain technology.

Description

SUSHA is a group of applied research projects developed around an experimental platform allowing software services offered by connected objects spread over several sites to be dynamically composed. Ambient computing researchers within the SPARKS team of the I3S laboratory of the Université Côte d’Azur, UMR 7271, have been working on this subject for over 10 years. Their continuous work has resulted and still results in the increment of the platform in the process of being transferred to the industry and already deployed on numerous sites.

As part of the SUSHA project, current research work are devoted to the field of eHealth and more particularly on two areas of innovation:

  • Home assisted living improvement for people with loss of autonomy thanks to connected objects available in their surroundings (A),
  • Early management of patients between their place of residence or accident site to the care facility with improvement of the medical monitoring thanks to connected objects (B)

The SUSHA project is being developed from the two following milestones:

  • The deployment of the experimental platform in the city of Da Nang (Vietnam) in cooperation with manufacturers providing connected objects (1)
  •  The performance benchmarking test of the software interactions of services located in Da Nang and Nice (France) sites, through the platform and over an ADSL network (2)

The development of the subsequent research work is made in the form of sub-projects in collaboration with our Vietnamese counterparts based on the experimental platform and the applicative domains that have been identified.
